I'm currently very frustrated with all the obvious, glaring holes in my craft. I find that personal style, in many ways, is simply the visual form in which one's limitations manifest. Arrogantly, I could chalk it up to my unwillingness to settle for some sort of temporarily appealing, Vasquez-ish gimmick (which I can do adequately). In reality, I've probably worked myself up to be a level of artist which I never was, and was never destined to be, regardless of training.

For Optimism, I just used a Sharpie. Usually I use brush-pens though; the line quality one can get from those things = amazing.

gin always helps. as does the humility to realize that there will always be someone better. it just raises the bar higher, which can either discourage you completely, in which case you're a bit of a coward, or help you exceed your possibilities.

sorry for sounding like an awkwardly optimistic hippie. but that is a true fact i've come accross (and still quite frequently do) so many times..
